KENYA -PORTUGAL RELATIONS
NAIROBI, 16TH APRIL 2026,
Ambassador Betty Cherwon, Kenya’s Ambassador accredited to Portugal, took part in the inaugural Political Consultations between Kenya and Portugal held in Nairobi on 15th April 2026. The Kenyan delegation was led by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, while Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Paulo Rangel led the Portuguese delegation. The productive consultations mark a significant milestone in Kenya–Portugal relations.
The two countries are partners bound by shared values and a common vision for prosperity, stability, and sustainable development. Both Ministers and their teams identified priority areas where cooperation is already underway and where there is immense potential for deeper engagement.
These include the Blue Economy and Maritime Development, Trade and Investment, Tourism and Cultural Heritage, Renewable Energy and Climate Action, and Multilateral Cooperation. The discussions pave the way for signing several agreements in the near future and are set to elevate the historic ties between the two countries — a relationship that began over 50 decades ago through cultural exchanges — to greater heights.
