Summit on ‘Clean cooking in Africa’

The International Energy Agency hosted a Summit dubbed ‘Clean Cooking in Africa’ on the 14th of May 2024. Kenya participated in this Summit that was co-chaired by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Prime Minister of Norway H.E. Jonas Gahr Støre, IEA’s Executive Director Fatih Birol and the President of the African Development Bank Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.
Kenya’s participation at the Summit was led by Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Hon. Davis Chirchir, Kenya’s Ambassador to France France Amb. Betty Cherwon and Deputy Head of Mission Amb. Kasera Achayo amongst others.
The Summit brought over 1000 delegates that had a shared objective of advancing clean cooking access in Africa. The key outcomes and takeaways of the Summit include the Mobilisation of USD 2.2 billion worth of investments from governments and private sector; the endorsement of the Clean Cooking Declaration by more than 130 delegations and lastly the public commitment by nine African Governments to making access to clean cooking a National priority.
